Dear Sir:
You are advised that it appears from the papers in
the Revolutionary War pension claim, W. 19480, that Samuel
Tyrel was born February 22, 1758 in Woodbury, Connecticut.
While residing in New Perth (which was later Salem)
Washington County, New York, he served as a substitute for
his brother, William, one month from in June, 1776, in
Captain McCracken’s Company, Colonel Gansevoort’s New York
Regiment.
In 1777 he moved to Hebron, Washington County, New
York, and enlisted and served with the New York Troops as
follows— from in June 1777, one month in Captain John Ham-
ilton’s Comapny [sic], Colonel Williams’ Regiment, and was in
the retreat from Ticonderoga; from August 1, 1777, three
months in Captain Elijah Herrick’s Company, Colonel Morris
Graham’s Regiment and was in the battle of Stillwater; in
1778 out in scouting tours and alarms in Captain Hamilton’s
Company, in all six months; from April 1, 1779, nine months
as sergeant in Captain Levi Stockwell’s Company; in 1781 out
in scouting tours and alarms in Captain Wilson’s Company
Colonel Webster’s Regiment, in all about six months.
He was allowed pension on his application executed
August 28, 1832, at which time he was living in Hebron,
New York.
He died in said Hebron, December 12, 1834.
The soldier married, January 22, 1782 in Williams-
town, in the “Bay State”, Eunice, her maiden name is not
given, she was born April 6, 1762, place not stated.
